Sophia earned her MACH in October of 2023. A few days after earning this title she lost mobility in her back legs and was unable to walk. She had an emergency 5 level hemilaminectomy of her back and spent the night in the surgical ICU. My husband and I visited her the next day where she was still unable to move her legs, but was spirited in spite of her condition. She was discharged home a few days later and with home physical therapy exercises 3 times a day, multiple medications 3 times a day and 4 weeks of strict crate rest. She was never frustrated as to why her back legs wouldn’t work the way they used to and was very receptive to her exercises which helped her to slowly regain mobility. 14 days after surgery she walked under her own power without any support from her sling and when she reached the 6 week mark we began taking her for weekly PT on the water treadmill with laser therapy. Sophia had previously competed in agility, fast CAT, coursing, rally and scent work. She has master titles in agility, rally and scent work. She was very bored with her new life after her injury and we got her back into her scent work classes at our local club to give her a job to do. Today she continues to compete in scent work, enjoys going for trail walks and still is as bossy as ever to her siblings. |
