Gabby and I have been a Registered Pet Partners Therapy Dog Team for the past eight years. Pre COVID we were Therapy Dog volunteers at both Alaska Native Medical Center at Ronald McDonald House, and Providence Alaska Medical Center, visiting various areas in the hospital, from Pediatrics, PICU, Pre-Natal, Adult and Pediatrics Oncology, Lobby Ambassador etc.
Post COVID, Gabby and and I now visit Providence Adult and Adolescent Mental Health Units. She brings a big smile and so much joy to all patients, staff, and visitors she encounters. And anyone who wants to sit on the floor during our visits gets Gabby in their laps as she soaks up all the pets, and hugs she receives.
Since Therapy Dogs are not supposed to bark or jump while visiting in the hospital, I worked very hard to train Gabby not to bark or jump when she has her Therapy Dog vest on. Once her vest comes off after our visits, she is back to her chatty self. So be careful what you name your dog, because I kind of jinxed myself with my girl named Gabby.
