It’s been a year of milestones, laughs, and some truly unique moments in the world of dog sports with Baxter, my energetic and ever-enthusiastic companion. From AKC scent work to racing toward his next FCAT title, every step of our journey has been filled with unexpected joys and unforgettable challenges. This year has been a testament to Baxter’s determination and his one-of-a-kind personality. It’s not just about the titles; it’s about the way we play the game together.

In the world of AKC scent work, Baxter and I have been on quite the adventure. This past year, we earned our Novice Elite title, followed by the Advanced title and, most recently, the Excellent Container title. Each level brought its own set of challenges and learning experiences, but there’s something magical about seeing Baxter light up when he sniffs out the target. He’s a natural, and I’ve learned so much from him – mostly about patience and perseverance.

But it’s not all about the titles. Baxter’s favorite game? Chasing the trash bunny. There’s just something about that moving little object that sends him into overdrive. He chased it all the way to a DCAT, then pushed forward to his FCAT title. Now, as we head into Nationals, he’s closing in on his FCAT2. Whether he’s working toward a title or just chasing the bunny for fun, he’s always all in. I swear, the trash bunny is his secret weapon – it brings out a side of him I can’t help but love.

What I’ve learned most from Baxter is that he’s not just another dog in a sport. He has his own way of doing things. Sometimes, he’s fully engaged in the game, nose to the ground, on a mission. Other times, it’s all about the treats – and, honestly, I can’t blame him! That’s the beauty of our journey. It’s never a straight path; it’s a fun, winding road filled with both wins and moments that make us laugh.
